Labastide d'Armagnac
Timeless Labastide d'Armagnac
A gem in the French county of Landes, a member of the association Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, Labastide-d’Armagnac lies along the Scandibérique. Its historic beauty remains unspoilt around the central square, Place Royale, with its timberframe houses, columns and arcades. Its fort of a church dominates the scene. Drink in the atmosphere at the central café terraces, or head to Le Tortoré, a café a few streets away that opened its doors in 1885 and is worth visiting, both for its period charm and for inimitable Colette, who runs the place today. Discover artists’ studios and curiosities ambling around the medieval streets, plus seek out the Protestant church (or temple), built in 1607 and now an exhibition space.
Labastide-d’Armagnac is part of the world-wide Cittaslow network of places putting the emphasis on a slow pace of life! Heading out of the village towards the county of Gers, you come to the Chapelle des Cyclistes, unique in France, a national temple for cycling enthusiasts, displaying numerous champions’ jerseys!
